I was looking at new soundcards and they brag about their high sampling rates, saying that it is way above the standard 44khz. Their sales pitch makes it seem that 44khz may not be that good, but I didn't realize that it was at least considered CD quality.

knowing how fanatical tapers can be, and audiophiles in general, I understand why someone might be seeking the purest of sources.

This probably doesn't mean that the 44khz guys are taping through the mini-plug, it's just the sampling rate of the analog inputs on the soundcard.

Glad to be able to clear.

You're right, of course, about the tapers and when they get into their lingo slammin I'm lost.

But, I teach computer networking for a living and we just finished the chapter on Sound on Monday so it was fresh in my mind.
